Basic Life Support Skills That You Should Be Aware of

Imagine if you’re on the outskirts of the city with your gang and medical emergency strikes. How will you handle the situation if there’s no hospital in vicinity? An emergency is always uncalled for and can strike anytime anywhere. So to be able to handle the situation, it is important to know how to provide basic life support care. 

In situations like a cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, trained BLS professions can perform certain life-saving tricks on the victim until professional medical help arrives. In such emergencies it is about a matter of few seconds that can save the victim’s life. Also Known as Basic Life Support, BLS is one of the most important skills that you can learn. 

To ensure that there is proer oxygen supply to the organs of the victim, you can perform chest compressions. But there’s is a proper procedure to it.

LooK For Possible Dangers

The first step is to look out for any possible dangers on scene, for you or the patient. Once you check the surroundings, it is only that you should kneal next to the victim.

Wait For A Resonse

Tap the victim’s shoulder and ask them if they are fine. If you get no response from the victim and you are alone, call for help as meanwhile you can check for breathing.

Open The Awirway and Check The Breathing Pattern

Use the head tilt and chin lift technique to open the patient’s airway.and observe the breathing pattern by bringing your face near their mouth to notice any exhalation or chest movements. If there’s no sign of breathing, call 911.

Chest Compressions

While you are waiting for the help, perform chest compressions by interlocking your hands and placing them on the victim’s chest. Then start compresing at a rate of 100-120 compressions a minute. 

Combine Breaths and Chest Compression

After performing chest compression, start combing 2 breaths and 30 compressions technique. Blow air into the patient’s mouth and follow up by 30 chest compressions.
